At the May meeting of the Foundation for Pottstown Education the new slate of officers was elected for the next triennium and three new board members were elected to serve.  Elected as the new Board President is Georgette Howell, an MCCC College Professor and Registered Dietitian with 21 years of professional experience; 17 of those years teaching in the health and nutrition field. Howell recently served as the Board’s Vice President.

Georgette is the Associate Professor and Co-Coordinator for Exercise Science and Wellness at the Montgomery County Community College West Campus.  Georgette received her Bachelor’s degree in History from SUNY Stony Brook.  She completed her Masters or Science degree in Nutrition/Education from Columbia University.  She also completed her Teacher in Higher Education program from Temple University, Health Coach Training from Hilton-Johnson and has 32 credits toward her PhD in Health/Human Services.

She has also been the Adjunct Professor for Allied Health at the Community College of Philadelphia, Assistant Director, Dietetic Internship, College of Graduate Studies at Immaculata College, Assistant Professor/Coordinator, and Dietetic Technology Program at SUNY Rockland Community College.

Howell replaces Dr. Tracey Brown who served the past six years as Board President.  During Brown’s tenure as President, the Foundation, $1,590,000 was provided through donations to enhance the education of the students of the Pottstown School District. Highlights included funding for more than 900 Chromebooks, meals for students and families during the pandemic, 74 PHS students earned 1,675 credits at Montgomery County Community College in the Early College Program, 81 scholarships were awarded annually averaging $42,000 per year, electronic books were purchased for all four elementary schools, AP test fees were provided to high school students, and equipment was purchased for all 6 school art departments and libraries.

Besides Howell, newly elected officers include Leticia Santiago, Board Vice President, Alison Scott Board Secretary and Scott Detar, Board Treasurer.  Howell was also elected to her second term as a Board member.  Two additional current board members were elected to continue as members Judy Green and Sue Yocom.  Three new board members were elected as members of the Class of 2025, Joe Cavallo, John Robertson and Lauren Williams.

Cavallo is the Vice President Business Development Officer for Tompkins Community Bank and has been serving on the Foundation’s Finance Committee for the past three years.  Robertson is the Communications Specialist for the Pottstown Area Health & Wellness Foundation. Williams is the Founder and Chief Lady Boss of HR Experts.  All three were elected to their first three year term.
