The Foundation for Pottstown Education recently selected 31 Pottstown High School sophomores to be accepted in to the Early College Program Cohort XIV, the largest incoming class to date. This program was initiated in 2014 under the director of then Foundation Executive Director, Dr. Myra Forrest and provides funding for Pottstown High School students to take up to 30 credits at Montgomery County Community College West Campus.
In order to be invited to apply for the program, the students must have a cumulative grade point average of 85% or higher mid-way through their sophomore year of high school. This year, 85 students were invited to apply for the program. Additional criteria used for selection is attendance/tardiness, involvement in co-curricular activities, volunteer and work activities and they must write an essay on the impact that this program will have on them now and in the future. 39 students applied from which the 31 for the cohort were selected.
The PHS Class of 2026 will have 25 graduating from this program, joining 135 former students who graduated previously graduating through the program with 98% of the students enrolling in a college, university, trade school or the military upon high school graduation. Through the generosity of the donors of the Foundation for Pottstown, all tuition and textbooks for these students are paid in their entirety.
